Interim Sustainability & Climate Change Expert - £450-600 p/d, option to work either 5 days per week or on a part time basis. 12-month contract.

Subject matter expert required consult, drive and coordinate climate change strategy in this complex organisation. Working in a greenfield environment you be collaborating closely with the Head of Sustainability to deliver climate change strategy across the UK.

This role is to create a leading climate strategy that considers both climate-related risks and opportunities, and delivers on commitments to a wide spectrum of stakeholders. This role requires strong strategic thinking as well as the ability to work positively with other key business functions.

As a key member of the sustainability team, you will be joining an agile, friendly and welcoming community who are absolutely committed to driving value and raising the profile of the function within the organisation globally.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Strategy design
    o Leading a holistic and strategic approach to climate change: leveraging expertise and knowledge of market trends, risk and opportunity analysis
    o Commercial mindset: ensuring alignment with business priorities so that the climate change strategy supports key objectives across the client.
    o Influencing senior stakeholders to ensure buy-in at the highest levels

  • Strategy execution
    o Fostering collaboration across multiple stakeholder groups in the business to deliver on the strategy. Understanding of external partner organisations who may be appropriate to support and managing this as needed.
    o Capacity building: ensuring the client builds the expertise and skills needed to manage climate change, including influencing senior stakeholders.
    o Stakeholder management to maintain climate change as a business priority, supporting across the business to drive actions in the Business Units that will ultimately be responsible for implementation.
    o Governance: supporting development of appropriate governance to oversee the strategy.
    o Supporting across all elements of the strategy implementation, considering metrics and targets and disclosure.

Minimum skills and experience required:

  • Strong strategic thinking and track record of driving change in complex/matrix organisations. Ability to manage very senior stakeholders and influence at different levels of the organization.
  • A Financial Services sector background
  • Suitable experience in climate change including experience within other large corporate organisations or consultancy firms.
  • Clear understanding of climate change landscape and ability to understand and apply risk analysis.
