Role: Head Buyer/Procurement Manager

Salary: £70-90k + package (Or an interim day rate)

Location: 1 hour north of Birmingham, near Walsall

(Role also possible on an immediate start interim contract)

Excellent opportunity for a Purchasing Manager/Head Buyer with experience in the Construction industry (materials, aggregates and plant) to join a PE-backed company in the Midlands experiencing strong growth - one of the leaders in their field. Report directly into the Group Head of Procurement.

The perfect candidate will lead a team of 6 and be responsible for the ongoing management of tactical buying activity and implementation of the group procurement strategy and activity. You will have overall responsibility for Materials Purchasing and work with the Head of Procurement to develop purchasing strategy, policies and procedures.

You will:

  • develop and implement a plan to ensure the Buying function is operating in line with the objectives of the business to add value, mitigate supply chain risk and deliver cost savings
  • develop and maintain supplier relationships and manage the development of contracts, contractual relationships and contract management to deliver continuous improvement
  • lead and manage a team of 6 Buyers
  • work alongside the senior management team in contributing to overall business objectives

Required/preferred:

  • Demonstrable experience of leading a purchasing function with a proven track record in materials buying
  • Proven contract management and supplier experience
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of construction processes and components
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development
