My client, an FMCG global organisation are looking for a Category Manager, specialising in sustainable packaging to join their team on a permanent basis. The role offers fantastic exposure into a huge global organisation, with fantastic benefits and opportunities to progress.

Role: Category Manager, Packaging Sustainability

Locaton: Southampton

Salary: £55K-60K+competitive package

Working within the Procurement and Supply Chain team, this role will lead the current state analysis, procurement and support the transformation of the plastic and packaging agenda across the end to end Supply Chain. The position will span all Procurement Categories, working with the Procurement and Supply Chain teams and key stakeholders to determine the most suitable and sustainable sourcing approach. The position will initially focus on eradication of single use plastics across the business, driving the strategy that meets our business objectives and exceeds our guest expectations.

Through leadership and project management, this role will partner Product and Operations leaders to deliver effective and sustainable solutions across our packaging and plastics portfolios, designing and implementing appropriate procurement

You will have:

  • A high level of experience in best practice procurement within relevant categories
  • Experienced in category management and development of sourcing strategies
  • Extensive packaging experience
  • In depth knowledge of purchasing systems and processes
  • Excellent negotiating skills drawing up and dealing with contracts of varying values and complexities, and managing supplier Service Level Agreements
  • Strong leadership, influencing, motivation and management skills
  • Good knowledge of MS-Office with strong excel skills
  • Proven track record of networking and influencing both internally and externally and working in partnership with industry bodies and NGOs

Qualifications - desirable:

  • Educated to Degree level in a STEM subject
  • Purchasing or Supply Professional Qualification (CIPS)

Knowledge/ Experience - desirable:

  • Purchasing or Supply Professional Qualification (CIPS)
  • Significant knowledge of sustainable sourcing in relation to product supply chains
  • Able to demonstrate good grasp of contracts, law and its application to supplier agreements.
  • Delivering successful strategic projects and implementing complex change
  • Commercially astute analyst, a natural problem solver with a strong understanding of leveraging operating efficiencies, opportunities to gain added value from suppliers and logistics partners
  • Strong process orientation, able to apply clarity of purpose and define simple, robust operating processes
  • Concise and influential communicator, able to discuss complex issues with clarity and credibility to a cross functional audience of varied experience
