The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a driven and capable Procurement Category Manager to lead procurement activity across the Scientific & Laboratory category.

You'll be responsible for developing and managing supplier relationships and sourcing strategies that deliver best value, support operational excellence, and maintain full regulatory compliance.

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, this role requires a commercially minded professional who can apply public procurement principles and category management techniques in a dynamic, stakeholder-focused environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead procurement and contract management for Scientific & Laboratory goods and services

  • Develop category strategies aligned with organisational objectives and sector best practice

  • Deliver compliant tender processes that achieve value for money and commercial efficiency

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers

  • Provide procurement expertise and guidance to academic and professional departments

  • Contribute to organisational procurement goals, policy development and continuous improvement

  • Support sustainability, innovation and social value through procurement activity


The Department

This role sits within a high-performing central Procurement team embedded in the wider Finance function. The team provides expert commercial support across all departments and has been nationally recognised for excellence in procurement practice.
