An exciting opportunity has arisen for an interim Senior Planner to join a leading organisation delivering complex, high-value programmes within a secure and highly regulated environment.
This role sits at the heart of project delivery, ensuring accurate scheduling, performance tracking, and informed decision-making across multiple stakeholders.
The Role
As a Senior Planner, you will be responsible for delivering a robust planning capability, maintaining integrated schedules, and providing performance insight through Earned Value analysis.
You will work closely with Project Managers, Control Managers, and wider business teams to ensure programmes are delivered efficiently, risks are identified early, and corrective actions are informed by data.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS)
- Provide planning and project controls expertise across supported projects
- Deliver schedule forecasting and performance reporting
- Conduct variance analysis, including Schedule Performance Index (SPI)
- Support development and improvement of planning processes and standards
- Review and optimise Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
- Support delivery of planning tools, templates, and training
- Collaborate with stakeholders across programme and business teams
- Contribute to long-range and strategic programme planning
- Support peer reviews and assurance activities
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in project planning within complex environments (e.g. engineering, infrastructure, defence)
- Strong knowledge of planning tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and performance metrics
- Ability to analyse schedules and provide clear, actionable insights
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience improving planning processes and governance
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline (desirable)
- Professional certification (e.g. APM, PMP) is advantageous
