Commercial Manager - Major Infrastructure & Engineering
The Opportunity
Join a nationally significant infrastructure programme as a Commercial Manager, leading the commercial and procurement strategy for complex, high-value engineering and construction contracts. Working within a collaborative commercial team, you will shape procurement approaches, develop commercial models and deliver contracts that support long-term programme success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commercial and procurement activities across the full contract lifecycle.
- Develop commercial, packaging and sourcing strategies for major engineering procurements.
- Manage high-value procurements from strategy through to contract award and mobilisation.
- Draft and negotiate NEC contracts, ITTs, pricing models and commercial documentation.
- Develop commercial and financial models that incentivise supplier performance and deliver value for money.
- Lead market engagement activities and supplier sourcing strategies.
- Prepare and support business cases, governance approvals and commercial assurance activities.
- Work closely with Finance, Legal, Programme, Technical and external stakeholders.
- Manage external consultants and commercial budgets where required.
- Oversee and support Assistant Commercial Managers, allocating work and providing guidance.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of commercial policies, procedures and templates.
- Support supplier negotiations and contract governance throughout procurement.
About You
- Significant experience delivering commercial and procurement activities within major infrastructure, engineering, construction or nuclear programmes.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC contracts, including drafting and negotiation.
- Experience managing complex procurements valued at £20m+.
- Skilled in developing commercial strategies, pricing models and procurement approaches.
- Experience preparing business cases and working within structured governance frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and deliver to demanding timescales.
- Experience leading or coordinating small commercial teams.
Desirable Experience
- Public sector procurement experience, including the Procurement Act and PCR regulations.
- Knowledge of Crown Commercial Service (CCS) frameworks.
- Experience supporting critical infrastructure or government-funded programmes.
