I joined 1st Executive in May 2015 after a spell recruiting within the education sector for a large global recruiter. I was keen to explore a new industry sector and the ‘boutique search’ feel of the firm really appealed – especially after working in an environment where you really were just a minor player in a cast of thousands. Here there’s regular day to day contact with the top people in the business.
I joined the permanent team on the public sector desk and while the training at my previous role had been very thorough, the ongoing support and development here is very tailored to the individual – and the sector. It’s also a very blended approach – from traditional formal courses through to online video based training and more informal lunch and learn sessions.
After six months I moved over to our construction facilities management team and have recently been promoted into a business development managerial role with a resourcer as a direct report. There’s a definite sense that you can be accountable for your own business here without being micro-managed – there is support and guidance if you need it but it’s a grown-up entrepreneurial environment that fosters success and with that success comes trust, recognition and reward. I’ve had three extra days holiday for over-exceeding my target and there’s also an uplift on commission for over achieving targets.
